Hi Chuck: I'd imagine it would be beneficial to have metal edged light touring skis for the downhill on Moraine Lake Road when its total crust? You could be going quite fast without edges. I enjoy crust skiing with skate skis on more flat terrain like Mud Lake, Engadine Meadows and Bow Lake. Very scenic. Agree, you need a sunny warm day, then a good freeze overnight. See crust skiing on Bow Lake on April 30.

great scenery on Bow Lake

a close look at Crowfoot Glacier

I don't know when they will start ploughing, but they always get it done for the May long weekend.
Skiing while they work has never been an issue, as they push the snow down to the left and leave the higher right side untouched. The main issue is to pick a day after a good deep freeze, so that everything is solid.
Pick a clear blue sky day and ENJOY!

Love the avalanche warning sign! By the size of that pole basket looks like an oldtimer. Wonder if it's the same guy the tree fell on.

Discussion:

Starting at minus 3 provided good conditions for skate skiing. Surprisingly, no hikers or bikers out today.
Why wait until October, when you can ski in May!

Far enough for today!

Parks has not started ploughing yet

Base is hard packed

Skies did not really clear, even for the viewpoint!
