To me, this is the most spectacular area in the Rockies!
The Moraine Lake Road had just been trackset again, which made for pleasant access. Surprised that no one had yet been to the top of the Giant Steps. Anyway, this is a great destination through April.
I only used my Rode Multigrade (0 to -2) with temperatures starting at minus 4 and ending at plus 10. Metal edges are not only advisable for the descent, but useful for any quick side stepping on the ascent.
These Giant Steps are much easier to ascend in winter than in summer
I rebroke the trail up Paradise Valley on the shorter south side, which avoids snow bridges
First views of the headwall at the far end of Paradise Valley
Avalanches thundered down all day (note the Giant Steps at the bottom of the photo)
Ascending the Giant Steps
The pillows at the top are beautiful

Beautiful photos! How was the descent on the downhill section of the trail in that warm weather? All corn snow or slush?

It was only warm when I got back to the MLR, and it was hard packed, so no problems.
