Discussion:

Back to Elk Pass today, and was happy to see the whole trail is open again (no more avalanche closure). Started skiing around 1300, sunny day, +1 at the Elk Pass parking lot, but +8 or so on the trails. Trails had about 3 or so cm of fresh snow over the tracksetting from a couple of nights ago.

As expected catch and release when transitioning from sun to shade. It was easy climbing the steep hill by the parking lot, but elected to walk down the other side as the areas in shade were icy, but the sunny spots were soft. A little too erratic for me.

Elk Pass trail after the Hydroline junction is in great shape, but you need to take your time, as it can be jerky. Because of that, we decided to return by Hydroline. That trail was the best of all of them. Slightly windblown, but the snow was dry and great. The hill back down to Elk was a mix of a thin, sticky layer over ice, so back to walking down.

Not great conditions for skin skies - they developed a thin layer of water over the skins that then froze so I lost all grip. Had to stop a few times to scrape it off. Happened primarily on Elk. Hydroline was fine. My wife had waxless skies and they were problem-free.

Overall good conditions for this time of year. Any day out now is a bonus...

Blueberry Hill junction. Didn't go up, but spoke with someone who said conditions were very good, with only a bit of ice on the steepest section.
