I followed up on some recent trip reports about the Great Divide. I began at the west end of the trail, just past the BC border near the Lake O'Hara fire road trailhead. There were about 6 cars in the parking lot as I arrived.
The trail was nicely packed however not track set for the first 2 Km and a lovely track was laid out beyond the Great Divide gate. Snow conditions allowed for a strong kick and a smooth glide. No rocks were seen. Still, the snow pack was thin as evidenced by the tink, tink, tink of the pole tips hitting the underlying rocks. Maybe aqua toque and I should go shopping together for Ginsu-tipped ski poles so we can get the sale price.😀
About 15 skiers were seen, most of whom who were skating. I found myself wishing I had my skate skis as the terrain and snow was perfect for practicing (I'm not a strong skater and can use all the practice I can get).
Initially, I planned to then take a run up towards Lake O'Hara too, but decided to hold that for another day.

Now I know who stomped around on my ski tracks at the trailhead!
Sorry to have missed you Roger.

Big snow event on the way ... Windy.com predicts 50 cm of snow on the divide in Banff and similar amounts at PLPP.
