Waxless to Waxable

Discussion:

Question:
Does anyone have experience doing a base grind on waxless skis to make them into waxable skis?
I have a pair of waxless skis with quite a bit of damage to the fish scales so they're not terribly efficient as waxless skis, but I think they'd be great with smooth bases.
I wonder if there's enough base material if one were to remove the fish scales.
I also considered adding ptex to the bases, then grinding, but I'm sure it would be a mess. The skis are Rossignol BC 90's, so beefy xc/bc skis.
Anyone have an opinion?
Cheers,
Gord in Calgary.

We used to do a lot of stone grinding at Trail Sports and experimented with taking off waxless patterns without much success. The base ends up very thin.
