Discussion:

I was expecting the Backdoor Pocaterra parking lot to be full, but only one car was there upon arrival at 11 am. Snow depth on the trail ranged from 10 to 20 cm over a wet/slushy base layer. Only saw a sign of a ski track for the first kilometer, otherwise the trail was well packed-in by hikers, all the way to the Fire Lookout. Only encountered two hikers coming back down from the Lookout. Snow depth increased a bit to 15-25 cm higher up past the S-bend up the Lookout North trail. Good grip on purple wax, although sticky at times. Nice and partly sunny at the top, with clam winds. Had to be careful on the descent down to Tyrwhitt Trail, especially below the S-bend with occasional scrapping of rocks. No signs that anyone went south on Tyrwhitt or down Whiskey Jack. Pretty early season conditions, but good enough to get back on the skis for a first outing of the season.

Total distance: 9.00 Km

Kananaskis Lakes from Fire Lookout

Calm winds at the top

Looking south from the Lookout.

Excellent (too much) grip for the skis

Approaching the top, before the blast of sunlight.
