Discussion:

With only enough time for a short ski, we opted to try the “Back Door” route to Pocaterra and Kananaskis Fire Lookout. There were a half dozen vehicles parked at the little pull-out along Highway 40 and a nice set of skier tracks along the old “Lionel” trail to Pocaterra. A snowmobile had just done a pass on Pocaterra, so it was easy travel on the packed snow. The groomer made a couple more packing passes, so the base should really set up nicely for tomorrow.
Nobody had been up North Lookout since the snow storm, so we broke trail up to the top. I measured 19cm of lighter, dry snow on top of a firm base… total snow depth was 48cm at the Lookout.
And it was an easy, fun ski all the way back out to the road.
