MORAINE LAKE - With such a supportive sun crust, I just had to keep going!

Discussion:

With another deep freeze last night and blue skies this morning, I thought I would check out the MLR.
Travel conditions were amazing. Breaking trail was easy and never more than ankle deep. My silver wax gave me excellent grip for the ascent, and the snow softened nicely for the descent.
Don't worry about all the crusty tracks near the start... they didn't even make it up the first hill.
Make your own assessment of the risk if you choose to cross the avalanche path.
Enjoy my track!

More pleasant to ski the crust than in the tracks

Soon I had to break trail

Passing debris while crossing the avalanche slope

Ptarmigan surprised by my approach

Joined his mate higher on the Rock Pile

A good view for my lunch break.

Fantastic, what a day! You had Moraine Lake all to yourself!
Soft yoghurt snow at CNC this afternoon, with some crusty ruts in the shade.

Thanks for another great spring trip report Chuck.

Too bad about the 6 photo limit. It would've been nice to see what your turns were like in those couloirs.

Wow, what a spectacular day!
What is this magic silver wax of which you speak?

Hi Diana,
The Magic Silver Wax of which I speak is either VR60 or 65 (I can't read the side clearly, as there is not much left).
I will definitely be buying more of it!
