Discussion:

We decided to try PLPP today to avoid the long drive and crowds at Lake Louise. As we drove along HWY 40, the snow conditions along the road got better and better and as we drove by the K-Village turnoff, the tress were ladened with fresh snow....things were looking up! As we approached the Fortress turnoff things changed abruptly....no snow in the trees and very little along side the road. After a chat with Michael at the PLPP Visitor Centre (who was very helpful) we found out that it had rained there for the last three days. What little snow there was had turned into ice. He did not recommend Elk Pass or any trails around PLPP. So, we returned to where we knew there was fresh snow and were very happy to find the there was about 2-5 cm of fresh dry snow on top of a thin crust with more dry snow underneath that. It was perfect! Both of us used our waxless skis (waxable would have worked too) and had a great day skiing the Wedge Connector followed by a trip down Bill Milne trail and back. A wonderful day! We saw two other skiers and that was it. With the cooler temperatures forecast, snow conditions around K-Village and the Wedge should be good for the next few days at least. Avoid PLPP! There is a reason that no one has posted a trip in that area.....no snow. It will take a pretty good dump of snow (10-15 cm) to make skiing in PLPP a viable option.

WOW! with photos of Jeff and compliments like yours, this gives us opportunity to applaud all our groomers. Today on GD, conditions were fabulous and what I especially appreciated: both the parking lots at GD and MLR were perfectly cleared of snow. Agree to Jeff's comment that Upper and Lower Telemark and Peyto will be perfect soon and to remain patient.
