Grooming at Kananaskis Village

Discussion:

With the retirement of Tracksetter Jeff, Brett has joined the grooming team and was roller-packing the Kananaskis Village and Ribbon Creek trails today.

My assessment is "good early-season conditions" with some caution. There are a number of dipsy-doodles on Upper Kovach where rivulets cross the trail. There are some uneven surfaces but all the fast downhills had good coverage and were enjoyable.

My only disappointment of the day was the final 1K of Terrace as it heads downhill into the Ribbon Creek parking lot. This is usually a fun ending to the day, but it didn't meet my expectations today. Weekend walkers left deep, hard divots which were not smoothed out by the roller. It made for very chunky snow and a teeth-rattling descent.

The large field at Kananaskis Village has been roller-packed and would be a great place for beginners to practice.

The temperature in mid-afternoon was -9 and blue wax worked perfectly. The texture of the snow is very nice and the climbs were easy.

The roller-packing continued on Hidden, so I expect Ribbon Creek and possibly Coal Mine will be groomed.
