Left on Wednesday to Elk Lakes Cabin via Elk Pass. Conditions at that time were good. The trail was hard packed with about 8 inches of new snow. Skier tracked to the pass. At the pass we turn down the hydro line towards Elk lakes. BC hydro is replacing the power poles for the entire lenth of the road to the base. The road is ploughed to an icy surface with some dirt and gravel mixed into what ice and snow is available to ski on. We used our skins to slow our decent down the road. At some points we were able to travel off the road in deep snow. We still arrived at the cabin in good time. Thursday we skied out towards upper Elk lake in a real winter wonderland. Lots of deep snow, on the hard packed trail. Friday morning (minus 35 degrees) we skied back up the hydro line but detoured off at about 2.5 km to break trail across Elk Meadows to the trailhead to Blueberry Hill. Deep snow but a firm base underneath so trailblazing was not too difficult. Rejoined the newly groomed and track set Elk lakes trail to return to the parking lot via Fox Creek trail. Very few people are out skiing. Conditions right now are excellent at PLPP.
