Discussion:

After last years tough ski with sticky fresh snow and no tracks beyond the 7 km mark, we decided to give this beautiful trail another chance.

The weather was a balmy -9C at the start, a full parking lot and some decent tracks set by others before us. The snow coverage was excellent and provided a good base for an enjoyable day. As the sun came through around noon, we saw some beautiful mountain vistas which makes this 11 km trip to the lake very interesting.

It turned out that the early crowd decided to veer off the main trail into backcountry terrain or the Ross Lake turnoff, so we quickly had to set track but it was on a hard base and good snow. Around the 7km mark the serious climbing started and we were quite happy and tired to arrive at Lake O'Hara. We decided to have a late lunchtime on the lake and the vistas were spectacular.

On the way down all the hard work and new track setting paid off and we arrived back at the parking lot in good time and before darkness. Another great experience in our national parks.

At the start of the trail

Six km to go

Some dramatic scenery going up

Picking a spot for late lunch on this beautiful lake
