I'm on my annual visit to see my brother in Medicine Hat. A 45-minute drive from the 'Hat are the Cypress Hills where they groom some wonderful trails(groomed with the old snowcat from Ribbon Creek).
I think I picked the best day ever to ski the Spruce Coulee, Highline and Ridgetop trails. These trails have lots of hills and on good conditions are a lot of fun. There was 1 cm of fresh snow over recent grooming so the steep hills were fast but safe and controllable.
After the hilly fun, I stopped at the Spring Creek trails which were trackset today. These trails are easy and would be a beginner/novice skier's dream.
The temperature was -6 with a big blue sky.
Spruce Coulee. Although it was late in the day, I was the first skier on the trails. Snowshoers and hikers were being considerate and staying to the edges.
Ridgetop. I removed thousands of rocks from this trail two summers ago. I finally got to enjoy the downhill run with no hazards.
I let this cougar cross the trail in front of me. Cypress Hills provincial park has a large population of cougars.
Spring Creek trails were trackset today.
Sunset ski on the Spring Creek trails.
Tree on fire.
