With the recent 15-25 cm snowfall in the Front Ranges, I was expecting the Pocaterra Backdoor parking lot overfilled by late morning. Only 5 cars were there already. A good skier track had already been set with hiking tracks on the side over about 15-20 cm of fresh snow. Nice early season conditions on Pocaterra. Broke first ski track of the season up North Lookout. Snow depth by the Fire Lookout was at least 20 cm, with -8 C and no winds at all. Pretty smoky view and smell all around, with summits to the south barely visible through thick haze. The glide back down was nice, but without a compacted snow base, gravel and small rocks were shaved (beware). Skied up Tyrwhitt to the meadows with a good skier track. A few wet sections and rocks, but overall quite skiable for a first snowfall, with a mid-fall winter wonderland.
