W to E Elk Pass traverse

As an avid follower of the skier bob and skier roger websites, I was aware of this tour and very much wanted to do it but felt that descending the cutblock would be too difficult with my touring skis and my ability. After meeting Masid at the blueberry junction table on Thursday then reading his detailed description of the route, plus Steve’s reverse direction report, I just had to take advantage of the weather and go following Steve’s tracks. That way I would go up the cutblock and be able to check out if I could possibly descend in the future. With long zigzags I could manage it. So, I rounded up 3 buddies for whom this was also a new tour and we did it today in warm, sunny, minimal wind conditions. Ideal! We thoroughly enjoyed it and I thank Steve for the counter clockwise track and Masid for refreshing the old track which Steve then followed in reverse direction. The snofas are melting! Check them out while they still exist.
