I concur with your comments Jeff - I had an earlier start (9:30 a.m.) and went to Stoney warden cabin for a quick snack. It was pretty chilly at the start (-22C) but the sun and no wind made it quite nice. Being the first one this morning, the tracks were better than I expected with a dust of fresh snow. The trail would definitely benefit from a fresh grooming to make the return faster :-) I didn't see anyone until my way back to the bridge. Finished just a bit after 1 p.m. with a balmy -12C.

Discussion:

I assumed that despite Parks Canada's rating of Cascade as fair, it would be pretty good. And it was! I started around noon at -12C, and the skiing was pleasant right from the start, all the way to the 8 km mark. Most of the skier-set tracks were in decent shape, much better than expected since there hasn't been grooming in a really long time. The tracks after the bridge were maybe a bit messier, but still fine. There were a few cm of fresh snow on top of a mixed hard and soft base. It was a touch slow overall, but really enjoyable. It will be fine tomorrow.
