Other than a small crowd of snowshoers who passed by, we had the ski slopes at a popular early season backcountry spot to ourselves on Wednesday. With a supportive snowpack of 50 cm, we enjoyed some fine untracked turns on mellow slopes in 15 cm of settled powder. Coverage at treeline and below was better than average for November, but the alpine looked highly variable as usual, with wind crust and rocks lurking under the recent storm snow. A great day to ease into the backcountry season!
