Discussion:
A wonderful first day on heavy gear and a good introduction to winter travel. The Smith-Dorrien was a horrible mix of wet snow and churned up, icy crud. Two vehicles got stuck in the parking lot, but the snow was really very good, with ankle-deep powder trending to deeper as we ascended. Lunch at Elephant Rocks. Supportive base now.
