A quick morning check on Nordic Pulse showed that Alex had just finished grooming the Ribbon Creek Village trails. Perfect! I'd been waiting for that. The temperature was -6C at the parking lot, which is just about ideal for waxing. The next pleasant surprise was the discovery that the Ribbon Creek hiking/biking trail had also just been groomed for fat-biking. Perfect! I never miss a chance to enjoy the lovely trail along the creek. This used to be a favourite easy XC ski trail, before it was devastated by the 2013 flood. The rebuilt trail is a masterful blend of winding single track, alternating between creekside and forest, all linked by a series of bridges. It's a bit like Fox Creek, but with more views and a set of stairs.
So, we started our loop on the Ribbon Creek single track trail, then continued on the groomed XC/multi-use portion of Ribbon Creek, then up to Kovach and around to the village and eventually back down the fast "canyon" trail to the parking lot.
Excellent grooming and snow conditions on all the trails.
We had hoped to stop in at the Village for a hot lunch, but the XC trails really don't connect to the hotel complex, without a bunch of walking on that paved and sanded pathway. No thanks...
