Today's skiing in PLPP deserved two wows. I never get tired of this loop with all its variety: Steep uphill climbing, fast downhills, sustained cruising, the beautiful single track through the forest and terrific scenery.

It was nice to be back on the trails after a 35-day layoff where I was inactive while recovering from surgery.

The temperature when I started up Whiskey Jack at 12 noon was -5 and the snow was -6. There was about 1 cm of fresh snow on WJ and Tyrwhitt, and just a dusting on Elk Pass. The fresh snow was beneficial for getting grip while climbing, but it did slow the glide somewhat.

I ran into a large contingent of friendly folks from the West Winds hiking group on Tyrwhitt who were doing a one-way from Elk Pass to Pocaterra Hut.

Fox Creek and Moraine were in excellent condition. Did anyone else notice the fast corner on Elk Pass where the groomers lifted the tracksetter and just left corduroy? It's much better this way because the tracks always get washed out and it was impossible to stay in the tracks anyway.
