Discussion:

Here is an update regarding the Lake Louise Upper Trails. The Fairmount route is in the best condition.

Fairview Loop (#2): Double trackset Dec. 3, good condition.

Shoreline (#4): Skier set, poor condition. Several large trees are down blocking the trail and a large drainage is flowing open water over a 4-5 meter section. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Lake Trail (#4): The rain we received on Dec. 1 really melted out the lake. The 15cm of snow we received on Dec. 2 has insulated what ice was left and it is now under 3cm of thickness at most. The view from the Fairview Lookout shows lots of open water pools through the lake's entirety. This is going to take a lot longer than normal to safety freeze. NOT RECOMMENED.

Upper Telemark and Peyto Trails (#5&#7): Work has been underway shoveling and sled packing for the past week. Todays (Dec. 3) cold temperatures has turned this into a rock hard and incredibly rough/bumpy trail. In the meadow right before the Upper Telemark meets the Great Divide there is a large section of water that isn't frozen just under the snowpack. It's deep enough to go over winter boots and severely impacts a snowmobiles travel (see: stuck). This is trail borderline dangerous. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Notes:

If the Ski Trail isn't trackset, it's best to stay away. Downed trees and very rough (unsafe) conditions should be expected if you venture away from ski tracks.
