Discussion:

The Redearth Creek trail is snowmobile packed and excellent skiing. No trackset trail. Swix V40 wax was exceptional with great grip and nice slide. Moderate to moderate fast skiing. There is some nice skate skiing on 59x210mm metal edge skis.

Late afternoon the temperature at the Redearth Creek Warden Cabin was -5.5c.

The trail up to Shadow Lake Lodge is a somewhat narrow snowmobile "luge type" run with some high vertical dug out sides. I side stepped the trail to widen the trail and to make it easier to ski.

From Shadow Lake Lodge to Shadow Lake there is a well used fat ski skier track that provides excellent skiing.

From the bridge at Shadow Lake I broke trail across the lake and up to Ball Pass Junction campsite. Trail breaking was very easy. Snow speed was moderately fast. Ski penetration on average was ankle deep, becoming less deep the further I went up the valley. There must have been a pineapple express that dumped some rain as there is a good supportive rain layer below about 5 cm of softer snow. I could ski across the meadows with no problem. Generally the creek is covered in the meadows and well snow bridged. Just great fast touring, particularly to the diffused high moon at night.

At about 8pm at Shadow Lake Lodge the temperature was about -3.5c. No wind. If you want to get into Hadiuk Lake, this is the time. This is the best xc skiing travel conditions I have seen in January up in this area. Enjoy it while its great skiing. Cold weather will likely affect the snow base in several days when the temperature drops.
