Just received great news from the Parks Canada Information Centre in response to my concerns about no trail work since January 10.
The sole Banff Park tracksetter had got injured and was unable to work.
The following is the update I was glad to receive:
Our trail maintenance team has been busy training new staff to assist with the grooming in the Banff Field Unit. This week, they snowmobile packed the Spray while learning the machinery and clearing trees from the Spray West trail. They have also been able to trackset the Cascade trails, although with no new snow. All the grooming reports are added to our trail report as soon as we have the information. Without another snowfall, conditions still prove challenging to groom. As most are hard packed and icy (not the easiest to learn in), the teams are doing their best to get caught up.
Additionally with lodge bookings at Shadow and Sundance lodges, trail maintenance has increased on both of those trails from the lodge staff. The volunteers at tunnel mountain also have their machinery back up and running and are working on the trails in the campground.
