Hwy 66 gate update

Discussion:

The old gate has been removed and you can now park at beaver lodge or powderface in addition to elbow falls. Those limited stalls being a bit closer to some objectives get filled quickly on a weekend, so lots of cars still parking on the road shoulder, just not up by the prairie mtn trail (closed until May).

A bit of fresh out there this morning. Patchy thin snow and bare dirt on powderface rd @ prairie creek. Further west looked like it had potential. Note the moose in the willows (upper right).

Great news about the Highway #66 gate being moved. That never did make sense in the first place.

Perfect timing for your scouting trip... it looks like we'll get 25-35cm of new snow in that area starting Monday night... around 45-50 at Ribbon Creek and as much as 60cm in the Elk Pass area

That sounds like an optimistic forecast. Regardless, likely warm temps and some wet snow except up high maybe. We will see. Time to pay attention to the weather stations and maybe get out early.

Still my favourite banff t-shirt

Souvenir hunters have pretty much picked over the site of the old gate. There are still a couple relics for the taking if you want to own a peice of history.

The highway is currently 99.4% snow & ice free up and over the pass. This probably won't be the case in the very near future.
