Spring Skiing is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.

I arrived Boulton Creek on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning and the temperature was -1°C. Up Whiskey Jack, and it was icy -specially on the steep sections. Turned right at the Pocaterra junction and connected with Tyrwhitt. This section was quite lovely and the tracks in good shape. As I approached the Hydroline Junction, the snow suddenly turned sticky and clumped on my skis.

Down the big hill on Elk Pass - a bit slick but manageable - and took a break at the Blueberry Hill Junction. Then up Blueberry Hill. The snow seemed to have just the right amount of stick going up, which made the job relatively easy. Coming down the hill, the slopes were steep, scraped and scary. Down the remainder of Elk Pass, the tracks kept switching back and forth between sticky and icy.

Fox Creek offered an oasis of calm, and was delightful as always. The tracks were fast and a bit tricky but manageable. Moraine likewise wasn't too bad. Not great, not terrible. Towards the end, the snow started clumping on my skis again and I had to stop often to scrape it off.

All that said, despite some frustration, it was still a good day, and considering it's the third weekend in March, overall not bad. I've seen far worse at PLPP in March. I'm still hoping for some more snow and cooler temperatures. Maybe we can sneak in a few more good ski days this season.
