Missing Egypt Hut

On Friday we skied into Egypt Hut from the Sunshine Village parking lot via Healy Pass, and returned the same way. Or to be more precise, we skied into where Egypt Hut used to be. Since the mid-1980s I have enjoyed doing this day trip at least once every winter. It was always a treat to have lunch while sitting in front of the fire, before beginning the climb back up to Healy Pass and out. The last time I was able to do this was on February 27, 2020, just before the pandemic started. The hut was still there but boarded up when I was there on December 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021. When I returned on January 10, 2022 the hut was gone, so I am guessing it was demolished in the summer of 2021. I have heard rumours of the possibility of a replacement hut being built, but no sign of that on today's trip. We had a beautiful sunny day, and the snow was surprisingly good from Healy Pass down to the Hut and back. 24.4 km, 1060 m, 7.5 h.

Hmmm. Not much was learned from the official parks Canada website.

I saw a RFP online for 3 huts by Parks Canada last year. Pretty sure Egypt was on the list.
But like you, sure was sad to see it taken out.

Someone told me they were replacing the small hut on Castle Mountain? And putting it a bit further back than the current footprint.

I talked with Parks Canada earlier this season regarding the status of these huts. Was told both Bryant and Egypt Lake huts are to be rebuilt and expected to open in 2025. No mention of a 3rd.
