Loved skiing in the sun up to Sundance Lodge for the day

On a recent ski from Cave & Basin to Healy Creek trailhead and back, we noticed a relatively fresh snowmobile track going up Brewster Creek Trail toward Sundance Lodge. Since the opportunity presented itself, and there was enough good snow, we decided to "check it out" as a day trip on Friday.

What a gorgeous day and thankfully, soft snow conditions that didn't deteriorate during the day. The trail from the juncture up to Sundance Lodge was snowmobile packed with a one single width path, no ski-set track.

We noticed lots of footprints in the snow, but it didn't prepare us for the group of 10, and then not far in front of them, another couple who were just putting on their snowshoes, all of whom were staying at the lodge. They were all very nice and obviously enjoying the fine weather, as were we.

We encountered one other skier, who got an earlier start than us, and warned her about the walkers since it can be fast on the way out and the single path would make it hard to slow down quickly since we all had to share it.

At the lodge, we were met by a staff member, Tegan, who gave us some yummy spinach & cheese pastries fresh from the oven, and let us sit on the deck to enjoy the March sun before we headed down. Such a nice treat and so welcoming - wished we could have stayed . . . but the lodge was full!

On the way out, we encountered most of the walkers once again about 2 km from the lodge, and lucky for us, the snowmobile was making another trip up and smoothed out the track as he went (he still used that single track), so the last 2 km down to the juncture with Healy Creek was super fun (not bumpy!) and relatively fast.

The Parks Canada portion of Healy Creek was freshy rolled and track set, so it was a fast and easy ski back to the trailhead.
