Beautiful scenery up there. You grabbed the last of the sunny spring days. A snow refresh would be welcome now.

My first ski in over a month, offered perfect alpine views and sun. A few years ago in early January, I made it to the pass from Red Earth Creek, breaking trail from Shadow Lake Lodge; it was a much harder day than having a well-packed snowshoe trail like today. Met the entire squad of staff working at the lodge and on the trail from TCH. The Red Earth Creek ski trail had pretty abrasive snow on several layers of VR45 in the morning. After the steep climb from the lodge, I was rewarded with stunning views of Mount Storm, while following Chuck’s ski trail to the pass cairn. Mitch, lodge operator, was coming at km 4, when I met him again while I was heading out, tracksetting the trail for there last weekend with clients. I recorded 16.7 km one way to the pass cairn and at least 900 m net elevation gain.

Total distance: 33.40 Km

Storm Mountain guarding the pass and it’s almost completely buried cairn.

Heading back down from the pass. Can you see Mt Assiniboine?

Backside slope of Little Copper Mtn

Last climbing section with scattered larches, to finally emerge out onto flat ground at the pass.

Someone told me this mountain is named Mt Ball.

Part of Storm Mtn massif; the ridge on the left offers great views of Shadow Lake country, when hiking in the summer.
