I parked at the Ribbon Creek parking lot and travelled up Hidden, past Nakiska and over to the Skogan Pass trail. The new snow covered the tracks and the trees. At the Sunburst/Skogan Pass junction, I was pleasantly surprised to encounter a moose on the Skogan Pass trail. I watched it for 5 minutes until two friendly women showed up. I encouraged them to come to the intersection and have a look. They wanted to travel in the direction of the moose, so after a few minutes, they made some noise and started skiing towards the moose. The calm moose eventually took off into the forest. It was magical!

I turned off on Sunburst and visited the Hummingbird Plume Lookout with a limited view. I continued down High Level, up the main trail to Skogan Pass Lookout. It took me a long time to ski as I was mostly breaking trail through what I estimated to be 13 cm of new snow (except when the women did some sections). The scenery with the fresh snow was superb! It was so peaceful and quiet. It was good to meet one man who was appreciative of our trail-breaking. I was happy that a few others took advantage of it.

There was a minimal view at the Skogan Pass Lookout so I had a quick lunch and left the area. I skied the Skogan Loop counterclockwise and returned to my vehicle. The downhill was fun even if it was not its usual crazy fast run.

The temperature remained close to -7C with some wind chill on the descent. It warmed up to -4C at the vehicle. It was a wintery, enjoyable ski outing today!
