With all of the great Skogan Pass trip reports in the last two days we just HAD TO go to Skogan Pass today. We started at Troll Falls parking at 9:15 with a temperature of -12 degrees. We took Hay Meadow and Ruthies to avoid the ice flows. We used LT fishscale gear to be ready for any type of conditions that we might encounter on the return - more on that later.
The snow was cold with excellent grip all the way up. The views along the way and at the top were brilliant.
We took our time, and unlike tmalaher we ignored the warming weather and stayed at the top too long. The glide down to the Sunburst was perfect - fast and total control with the LT skis.
Things deteriorated quickly after that. The sun and temps above zero changed the snow. Speed was OK, but the catch and release was annoying, but not as much as the grab and tackle, and clumping. We had liquid glide wax that would have helped but we were close enough to the bottom that we did not bother applying it.
We passed the group of Rapter counters on Hay Meadow on our return who reported that they had already spotted over 65 eagles today.
It was a great outing, even considering the grabby snow encountered in the last hour.

We are saving up for a HH Mustard jacket but have some nice mustard gloves that are color coordinated with a repurposed stuff sack. The snow is over 1.3 meters deep here.
