Thank you Ulrikeski, that is delightful!

I actually met 4 other skiers on Moose Loop today, probably because I move so slowly :-)
Similar conditions, but probably more sun-affected?

Ah, thanks for that ulrikeski.

Steve neglected to put the two little dots above the second "a" in "langläufer". That's what had me confused.

"Langlauf" is the German word for cross country skiing. Literally translated it means "long run".
There is a saying "Langläufer leben länger" - cross country skiers live longer. A healthy sport that can be enjoyed into old age. Keep skiing!!

To paraphrase Steve Martin:

"It's like those Germans have a different word for everything"

That being said, I did learn a new term today.

I mean, I've heard of Italian loafers but I've never heard of langlaufers.

What, you think langlaufers have have a monopoly on crystal hiss?!

I've skied thru your turf. You gotta problem with that?

Do you even langlauf, bro?

Discussion:

I had a very enjoyable mid day ski at Bragg, on a route taking in West Crystal-Loggers-Elbow-Iron Springs N and S-Iron Creek-East Crystal-Sundog Loop. Good to excellent skier tracked conditions in soft cold snow (VR45 wax for the win), with only some short sections of sticky snow, mainly on the exposed south facing sections of Iron Springs. Those will be crusty tomorrow, but the remainder should still be in decent shape for another day or two.

Typical skier tracked conditions, on Loggers.

Two of the 3 other skiers that I encountered. It was quiet out there!

8-10 cm of sparkly fluff over the old grooming. The hiss of crystals against skis made for delightful skiing in the untracked.

A look back at the great conditions on Elbow.

On Iron Creek (and elsewhere), other user groups were diligent about preserving the skied-in tracks.

The long East Crystal downhill was a bit slower than I would like, but for April skiing-I'll take it!
