Discussion:

I was backcountry skiing in the Monashee Mountains earlier this week, so I missed the big snow storm. But a check of the West Bragg Creek webcam suggested that it might still be worthwhile to go out there for a ski. Amazing! It got down to -13C overnight, so I avoided the sunnier trails that could have a bit of a melt-freeze crust. The West Crystal-Middle Crystal and Crystal Link trails are generally more shaded and I was happy to find mostly powdery, soft snow. It was easy trail breaking with wider touring skis, so I mostly just made my own track... even when there was an existing skier-set track. I started heading west on Mountain View, but then veered off onto Snowy Owl, which was completely devoid of any tracks. That lovely trail was a real treat! And Loggers was great too.
After another cold night, conditions should be good again on Saturday... but it will warm up quickly after that!

West Crystal Line. Good skier set track.

Loggers. Looking very much like winter!

Snowy Owl. What a treat to ski this one!
